Shelf Installation Northwest Suburbs, IL

Garage Wall Turned Into Real Storage

The wall had a rail and a handful of hooks on it. Everything else lived on the floor: bins, coolers, a wagon, camping gear, cases of water. The bikes were already up on ceiling hooks, so the owner knew the vertical space was there — it just wasn't being used.

The Work

Why Wire, and Why Into Studs

Wire shelving in a garage earns its place: it doesn't trap damp the way a solid shelf does, it lets light through so you can see what's on the level below, and the standards let you move a shelf later without drilling fresh holes.

The part that matters more is what it's fixed to. Garage shelving gets loaded with the heaviest things in the house — paint, tools, water, salt — and drywall anchors are not what that load should be sitting on. Every standard here is fixed into framing, and shelf spacing was set around what the wall will actually carry when it's full.

The Result

The same wall now holds four levels of storage along its full length, the floor is clear, and the layout can change later without starting over.
