Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know before booking — pricing, scheduling, service area, insurance, and more.

Pricing & Quotes

EasyFix prices by project, not by the hour. Before any work begins, you receive a flat-rate quote — so you know exactly what you'll pay. No hourly billing, no surprise charges, no "it took longer than expected." The quote is the price.

Yes — every EasyFix job comes with a 6-Month Workmanship Guarantee. If something I installed or repaired fails within 6 months because of the workmanship, I come back and make it right at no charge. Manufacturer defects in client-supplied materials are covered by the manufacturer, but my labor is on me.

The fastest way is to text a photo and description to (224) 354-7188 — I usually respond with a price within 2 hours. You can also fill out the quote form on this site and I'll reply by text or email within 2 hours.

Yes — the minimum service visit is $125. Most single tasks fall between $120–$220. If you have multiple small tasks, combining them into one visit is the most cost-effective approach — and I price the bundle better than individual tasks.

I accept cash, check, Zelle, and all major credit cards. For most jobs you pay once the work is finished and you've looked it over with me. For larger projects over $1,000 I ask for a 50% deposit up front and we put the scope and price in a simple written agreement, so we're both clear on what's included before anything starts.

Yes — multi-task visits are the best value. For example: TV mounting + shelf install + curtain rods in one visit costs significantly less than three separate appointments. Send me your full list and I'll give you a bundled quote.

Scheduling & Availability

Most jobs are scheduled within 2–5 days. Same-week availability is usually open. For urgent requests, text me directly at (224) 354-7188 and I'll tell you the earliest available slot.

Yes — I work seven days a week. Monday through Friday I'm available 7AM to 8PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 7AM to 5PM. Just call or text to book a time that works for you.

After we agree on a quote, I'll confirm a date and a 1-hour arrival window so you're not waiting around all day. I text when I'm 15–20 minutes away. Most clients tell me this is one of the things they appreciate most about EasyFix.

Insurance & Licensing

Yes — EasyFix Handyman Services is fully insured through Next Insurance and registered as an LLC in Illinois. Your home and property are covered. I can provide proof of insurance upon request.

EasyFix is a registered LLC and insured. Illinois does not require a statewide general contractor license for most handyman work. I am registered in Arlington Heights. Work that requires a licensed trade — electrical panels, plumbing, HVAC, structural — isn't something I take on myself. On a small repair I'll tell you honestly and point you to the right person. On a larger project I can bring in the right trade and coordinate it for you.

It depends on the job. Electrical panels, plumbing, HVAC and structural work need a licensed trade — for a small repair I'll simply tell you that and point you to the right person, and on a larger project I can bring the right trade in and coordinate it so you're dealing with one point of contact. I also don't remove popcorn ceilings (I can patch and texture-match instead) or lay ceramic tile. Being straight with you about scope is part of doing the work well.

It depends on the job, the municipality, and what you want done — requirements vary a lot between villages, and the same work can need a permit in one town and not the next. Tell me what you're planning and I'll look into what applies. On larger projects I can walk you through the permit process, or you can file it yourself directly with your village at no cost.

EasyFix carries general liability insurance that covers accidental property damage. In the unlikely event something is damaged during a job, contact me directly and I'll work to make it right promptly.

About EasyFix

Kate — the owner — shows up personally to every job. EasyFix does not use subcontractors or send different crew members. When you book with EasyFix, you know exactly who is coming to your home. This is one of the most common reasons clients give for choosing EasyFix over larger services.

Not the whole time. I do like to walk through the job with you at the start so we agree on exactly what's happening, and again at the end so you can look everything over before I leave. In between, it's entirely up to you — plenty of clients head out and come back to finished work.

My main service area covers Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows, Mount Prospect, Elk Grove Village, Des Plaines, Algonquin, Carpentersville, and Crystal Lake. That's my core circle — but I do travel outside it by request. If you're a bit farther out, just ask; I can usually still come. If you're farther out, just ask — I'll let you know what I can do. Not sure if you're in range? Text me your city and I'll let you know right away.

Yes. If something I installed or assembled is not right, contact me and I'll come back to fix it at no charge. I stand behind every job — no exceptions.

Yes — I arrive with a full professional tool kit for every job. For materials: small hardware (anchors, screws, wall anchors, mounting hardware) is included in the quote. For larger materials (lumber, drywall sections, paint), I'll tell you what to purchase or can source it and include the cost in the quote.

Service-Specific Questions

Absolutely — plaster walls are very common in Arlington Heights and other northwest suburbs, and I work with them regularly. Plaster requires different anchoring hardware than drywall, but I carry everything needed. The result is just as secure.

A standard reach-in closet upgrade takes 3–5 hours. A full walk-in closet system usually takes one full day (6–8 hours). I'll give you a time estimate when we finalize the design.

For most jobs, no — I bring standard hardware and can advise on materials needed. For custom closet systems and accent walls, we'll discuss material options during the quote process. You can purchase materials yourself (I'll give you a list) or I can source them and include the cost in the project price.

Yes — IKEA is one of the most common assembly requests. I assemble all IKEA lines: PAX wardrobes, KALLAX shelving, HEMNES dressers, MALM beds, BRIMNES, and more. I also assemble Wayfair, Amazon, Ashley, West Elm, and every other brand.

Yes — patching holes from old TV mounts is one of the most common repair requests. I patch, texture-match, and prime so the repair is invisible and ready for paint. This can usually be done same-visit when combined with a new mount installation.
